Test order in Ahrefs: one cheap link before you promise ten

Spend a few dollars on a test order Ahrefs can verify, before you sell anyone a bundle. Then check the chain from basket to live URL to a tool report.

The test, in five stops

01

Pick one cheap row you would defend

Choose a low-priced donor that passes the scorecard. The goal is learning the process, not winning a ranking.

02

Use a real target URL

Point it at a page of your own, or a client page you have permission to use, with a keyword you wrote down beforehand.

03

Pay, then watch ordered links

The placement usually goes live within about 24 hours of payment. Note the date and time you paid, and the status you see.

04

Open the live article

Read it. Check the link goes where you expected, in the anchor you chose, and that the text suits the page it sits on.

05

Look for it in your tools

Search Console shows links it knows about to your property, and Ahrefs or Semrush list new referring pages once their crawlers visit. Allow days, sometimes weeks.

Why a late report is not a failed order

Third-party tools crawl on their own schedule. A live link can sit unseen for a while. That is normal.

Treat the live URL in ordered links as the primary record. Simple. The tool report is a later cross-check. If you tell a client the link is missing because Ahrefs has not shown it yet, you may be wrong. Give the crawlers about two to four weeks before you raise a question, and then raise it through the account page with the order reference at hand.

Write the result down. One line is enough: date, donor, hours to go live, days to appear in a tool. After three tests you have your own averages, which beat any figure we could print here.

The log you keep for each test

  • Donor name, price paid, and the score you gave it.
  • Target URL, keyword and content mode chosen.
  • Payment time, first time the status changed, and the live date.
  • Live URL, and a screenshot of the article.
  • First date the link appeared in Search Console, Ahrefs or Semrush.

Order status and refund questions, answered straight

Where do I see whether my order is live?

In ordered links, inside your account. Each placement shows a status, and the live URL appears there when it goes up. Check it before you answer a client, since it is the record that matters for your report.

How long should I wait before I worry?

The usual window is about 24 hours from payment. If a day passes, look at the status first, then check the article does not exist under a slightly different URL. Past two days, write through your account page.

Can I get a refund on a test order?

We cannot state refund terms in this guide. Read the terms page, check the order status, and ask through the account page. Do not promise your client a refund until you have an answer in writing.

Does a link missing from Ahrefs mean it was not published?

No. Ahrefs, Semrush and Majestic all crawl on their own timetable, and none sees the whole web. Confirm the live page yourself first. Then wait a couple of weeks before you treat the report as a problem.

Is one test order enough to trust the process?

It proves the chain from basket to live URL once. It does not prove a donor will hold quality over time. Test again with a different donor type before you send your first large client order.
